Wats Up with The New Nissan GT-R Spec V

August 6th, 2009

The New Nissan GT-R Spec V, the long-awaited extreme version of Nissan’s porche 911 Turbo rival, has finally been revealed.

The new car is limited edition special that’s lighter, rarer and more expensive than the standard Nissan GT-R. It will come to Europe this year, but the Nissan GB had not yet made a decision on selling it here. Based on the face-lifted GT-R launched in japan last month, the Spec v uses the standard car’s new 485bhp twin-turbo v6, with the boost controller that lifts the 60kgm of toruque by an extra 2kgm from 3500-5000rpm. At 1680kg, the Spec v is 60kg lighter than the standard car.

As part of the weight saving regime, the Spec V loses its rear seats, and the boot spolier, front grille and brake ducts are made from carbonfibre. The titanium exhaust is lifted from the Nismo Clubsports GT-R and helps to save another 5.4 kg. Inside, the GT-R Spec V gets a pair of ultra slim Recaro seats with carbonfibre backs. Carbonfibre inserts also feature on the instrument panel.

The ultra-stiff suspension set-up uses Bilstein dampers, and the Spec v has Nissan’s first production carobon-ceramic brakes, co-developed with Brembo. Nissan claims that the new brakes allow the Spec V to develop a braking force of up to 2.0g, compared with the standard car’s 1.4g.

The wheels are light weight 20-inch forged alloy items, and the car uses bridgestone potenza RE070R run-flat tyres. The GT-R Spec V has a planned monthly production of 20-30 units. In japan, prices start at around Rs 78 lakh, almost twice the price of the standard GT-R. Nissan is remaning tight-lipped on the Spec V’s pace; it has yet to release acceleration or top speed figures, or an official lap time around the Nurburgring.
