Transparency Tester

July 29th, 2009

Mangal Instrumentation has intorduced a handheld, digital transparency tester to check transparency of glasses in vehicles as per the requirements of Indian/International standards. The tester shows the percentage of light passing through tinted glasses, solar films, dark glasses,/films etc.

The microcontroller-based tester is simple to operate, works smoothly in different weather conditions and displays results digitally. It is available with printer and RS-232 ports.

VOIP call-trace Signalling analyser

July 27th, 2009

Agilent Technologies has launched the first voice-over Internet protocol (VOIP) call-trace signalling analyser that can uniquely identify complex signalling problems end to end across multiple voice technologies such as VoIP over braoadband, legacy ss7, 2G,2.5G or 3G mobile networks.

The Agilent j7844A allows cutomers to troubleshoot signalling problems during any leg of the call. Real time call trace ties together messages for each call and tracks each call across multiple points in a nerwork to indicate where anomalies and failures occur.

Robotics is overlapping with electronics, computing, artifical intelligence (AI), mechatronics, nanotechnology and bioengineering. Smart, mobile, unattended robots with AI and movement sensors are enhancing productivity at homes and workplaces.

Denmark is developing a shapeshifting robot made of modules. Each module has its own processors, sensors, actuators and batteries. The modules can attach and detach from each other so that the robot can change its form. Used in earthquake-affected sites, this robot can tranform into a crawler to climb over the debris, a snake to get through a hole or a coumn to hold up a collapsed building and protect a survivor.

Mighty mouse or m2, famours in USA for its heroics, is a remote-contrikked bomb-disposal robot with drills and robotic arms. It is being used for fixing problems in nuclear installations.

Robots perfoming assembly applications carry out welding, painting, ironing, assembly, pick and place, palletising, product inspection, and precision.

Robotic arms are being used to perform surgery on patients. A high-resoultion, 3D telescope on the robotic arm allows surgeons to see waht is going on. Seated at a console, the surgeon can remotely control the robotic arm to perform complex operations like making incisions, manipulating tissues or even suturing tissues.
